Denver City Council adopts new rules on short-term home rentals After weeks of debate, the Denver City Council has passed a new law regulating short-term lodging rentals in the city. The bill was supported by people who feel that short-term rentals — residential properties that are rented out via online platforms like Airbnb, HomeAway and VRBO to visitors in lieu of a hotel room — blur the line between commercial and residential zones in Denver. The ordinance legalizes one kind of short-term rentals for less than 30 days — those in a host’s primary residence, but does not allow short-term leases of secondary homes not normally occupied by the owner.
